New Year’s Resolutions…the annual ritual most of us partake in. When we decide we’re going to be better versions of ourselves. How we’re going to eat better, work out more, be better fathers, better bosses, etc. At best, the lion share of men who partake in resolutions, stay committed to their goals through January. 8.33% of the year. This entry is for those guys...

Deciding to change is easy. Daily discipline is not. It takes roughly 66 days to create a new habit or break an old one. Here are some tips to keep your commitment to yourself:

1.      Choose tangible goals that are measurable on December 31st

2.      Write down your goals. Use the Mountain Mover Goal Achieving Worksheet developed by one of the most badass men I know, Kevin Carey.

3.      Share your goals with someone that will hold you accountable. If you don’t have one, send me your info. I’ll do it for free.

Here are some suggested consistency resolutions that every divorced man should consider:

A.     Practice gratitude by writing down 3 things you’re thankful for every day. Set a daily alarm on your phone.

B.     Set a target body fat percentage range that you can hit by August. Make it a reasonable range that you can hit AND maintain.

C.    Create (or update) a budget for your personal finances. 50% of your income should be dedicated to your needs, 30% to savings, 20% to wants. Regularly review and adjust as needed.

D.     Pick a new travel destination and go. Traveling broadens your perspective and helps you reset. Write about your experience.

E.      Approach 3 new women a week. No pickup lines. Just smile, tell her you can’t stop to chat long, and that you want her to settle a bet you and your buddies are trying to settle. Write down how you think it went afterwards and keep refining and practicing until your approach anxiety has gone.

It’s easy to make resolutions, but the real work comes in the follow-through. Stay disciplined, remain consistent, and remember that small daily actions compound into big results. This year, let’s make a resolution to actually keep our resolutions.
